The Accident
Relief Medical Van, normally
consisting of 2 coaches
are located at strategic
points on the Railway system,
for rushing medical and
rescue teams to a train
accident site where there
is an indication of likely
injuries to passengers.
As per the existing practice
the first available locomotive
is attached to the vans
and the train leaves with
the Railway personnel.
The Accident Relief Medical
Van now built by ICF is
self-propelled and eliminates
the delay in arranging
for a locomotive to provide
relief speedily. The Accident
Relief Medical Van is a
twin-coach set comprising
of an Air-conditioned Medical
Van and a Tool Van, which
incorporates the self-propelling
power equipment. Both have
driving cabs so that the
unit has bi-directional
capability.
Medical
Van
This is an
air-conditioned driving trailor
coach. Two 5 ton capacity
plants of underslung A/c
system comprising of underframe
mounted, open type refrigeration
compressor, condenser and
roof mounted evaporator unit
have been provided for air-conditioning
of the coach. The Medical
Van houses a fully equipped
operation theatre with surgical
and life sustaining equipments
and a ward with 12 beds.
A 290 litre refrigerator
for stocking essential drugs
along with cupboards for
keeping medical equipments
and stores have also been
provided.
The unique
feature of Medical Van is
that it is provided with
multiple power supply scheme
to ensure uninterrupted power
supply to the Medical Van
either with built-in facilities
or power drawn from adjacent
coach viz the Power Car or
from shore supply.
Design
of AC-I class with enhanced
seating capacity from 18 berths
to 22
berths has been developed.
