On
the export front, what started
as mere 2 bogies to Thailand in
1967-68, and 113 coaches to Taiwan
in 1971-72, ICF has made rapid
strides with export of various
types of coaches to Zambia, Philippines,
Tanzania, Uganda, Bangladesh and
Vietnam More...
ICF also has
the proud privilege of being
the first to introduce indigenously
developed Diesel Hydraulic
Rail Cars on the Meter Gauge
network way back in the early
60s.
The prototype
Diesel Hydraulic Multiple
Unit (DHMU) is a three coach
formation comprising a Driving
Power Car (DPC), a non-driving
Trailer Car (TC) and a Driving
Trailer Car (DTC). The unique
feature of the DHMU is the
underslung twin power packs
and hydraulic transmissions,
which drive one axle in each
bogie. Between the twin power
packs, the power available
is 680 HP. The DHMU is capable
of running at a maximum speed
of 100 km/h.
On account
of shifting of the power
pack to the underframe,
more accommodation is available
on the DHMU to the travelling
public, compared to the
Diesel Electric version.
The DHMU has a carrying
capacity of 854 passengers,
with sitting accommodation
for 319 passengers. The
coaches are provided with
cushioned seats, fluorescent
lights and adequate ventilation
for the comfort of the
passengers. The underslung
traction system leaves
the passenger area with
minimal noise and vibration
levels.
Design
of AC-I class with enhanced
seating capacity from 18 berths
to 22
berths has been developed.
